Dahab:
"Dahab must be one of the most relaxed places on Earth. Nobody here is in a rush. There is no boat to catch, no tide to miss, and wherever you turn there are shore side cafes ready to serve you up a cold drink and a plate of hummus and chips." Diver Magazine Jan 2004
Once a simple Bedouin settlement in the Sinai desert on the way to Nuweiba and Taba further north, Dahab, Arabic for "gold", now boasts all modern facilities -including two new deco chambers- while retaining its ethnic charm; palm-thatched beach side cafes, colorful markets, and a constant parade of tasseled camels and white-robed Bedouin. It is situated on the shore line of the Aqaba Gulf, one hour drive north of Sharm El Sheikh airport. The jagged mountains above, continue at much the same angle underwater, forming a dramatic seascape of valleys, canyons, and caves. Most of Dahab’s dive spots are geologically unique.
Dahab is home of spectacular dive sites like the famous Blue Hole and the Canyon. It is situated in one of the deepest areas of the Red Sea, where the desert is giving way to steep walls under water, plunging to a maximum depth of 1,850 meters (6,070 feet). The marine life in Dahab is very abundant, colorful, and different.
Known for deep diving, Dahab is the place where world records are made! On 13 June 2005, South African technical diver Nuno Gomes broke the world deep SCUBA diving record when he reached a depth of 318.25 meters (1,044 feet) in Dahab.
Both Dahab and Sharm El Sheikh could be dove all the year round with some highlights in this amazing specific ecosystem:
February and March are favorable for the seeing the big pelagius such as whale sharks and manta rays.
July and August are turtles breeding time.
August and September are the feeding and mating call for hammerhead sharks coming up in shallower waters from the deep.
Weather is good all the year round in both Dahab and Sharm El Sheikh because of their unique geographical location: closer to the equator than Europe and being surrounded by mountains from almost all angles. Average temperatures in Dahab are as follows:
